International Internships Program

Are you interested in working in the United States and having an international job experience on agricultural research?

UAA-US helps honduran students graduated from UNAG to pursue short term internships in the US, usually they can be from 3 to 6 months where the intern will be able to join a research lab to obtain experience in agricultural research

Every intern will receive a montly stipend to cover their expenses during their intership, also they can be self-funded

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant should be able to communicate in English, both verbal and written. English level will be measured based on an online interview.
  • Applicant must be a current UNAG student or graduate.
  • Applicant must have a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.00 on a scale of 4.0 (80% or higher). Lower GPA might be accepted.
  • Driver license/Driving skills. If applicable for the position.
  • The final candidates are responsible for the cost of health insurance, visa/SEVIS fees, and flight tickets. They are also responsible for costs incurred at the beginning of the program until the first paycheck is received, usually within 30 days.

2 Visiting Scholar Opportunities at Purdue University Food Safety Hub & Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center

Vincennes, Indiana, USA

The Food Safety Hub and the Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center (SWPAC) at Purdue University are seeking qualified candidates for two Visiting Scholar positions. These opportunities are open exclusively to graduates of Universidad Nacional de Agricultura (UNAG) and Zamorano University in Honduras. The appointments are expected to begin on March 15, 2027, and will last approximately six months. A living stipend/compensation will be provided to support living expenses during the appointment. These positions are located in Vincennes, Indiana, and are not based on Purdue University’s main campus in West Lafayette.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from Universidad Nacional de Agricultura (UNAG) or Zamorano University.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Be willing to work in a collaborative and multicultural environment.
  • Interact professionally, respectfully, and effectively with Purdue faculty, staff, students, growers, stakeholders, and members of the public.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
  • Complete all program requirements and pay the corresponding UAA-US Internship Program fees.

Visiting Scholar, Department of Food Science

The selected scholar will work with the Purdue Food Safety Hub on applied food safety and food microbiology research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct food microbiology experiments in a BSL-2 laboratory, including preparation of microbiological media and testing of produce and seafood samples.
  • Assist with field sampling activities, including collection of water, air, soil, and produce samples.
  • Perform fieldwork in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions, including high temperatures.
  • Safely lift, carry, and transport materials weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Collect, organize, manage, and analyze research data.
  • Contribute to the development of Extension publications, scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and educational materials.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and supporting field days, workshops, training sessions, and other outreach events.
  • Maintain laboratory, field, and safety records in accordance with Purdue University protocols.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Biology, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Interest in applied food safety research and Extension activities.
  • Experience working in laboratory and field research environments is desirable but not required.

Visiting Scholar, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology

The selected scholar will support vegetable pathology research conducted at the Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct vegetable pathology experiments in both field and laboratory settings.
  • Assist with field sampling activities, including collection of vegetable samples, disease assessments, disease ratings, and harvest evaluations.
  • Prepare microbiological media and laboratory supplies for pathogen isolation.
  • Isolate and maintain plant pathogens under laboratory conditions.
  • Conduct molecular plant pathology activities under the supervision of graduate students and research personnel.
  • Perform fieldwork in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions, including high temperatures.
  • Safely lift, carry, and transport materials weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Collect, organize, manage, and analyze research data.
  • Contribute to the development of Extension publications, scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and educational materials.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and supporting field days, workshops, training sessions, and other outreach events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Interest in vegetable disease management, plant pathology, and applied agricultural research.
  • Laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or plant pathology is desirable but not required.
